Entertaiment is any activity involving consumption and offering pleasure. It is understood objectively, communicates from an external stimulus, offers a pleasure that requires an audience and occurs in a passive form (Oliver and Barstsch, 2010). The power of entertainment to provide a sense of meaning and to inspire the retelling of it across multiple media is demonstrated by the way that the story of Scheherazade has been adapted by composers Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski; directors Pasolini and Spielberg; and game designers like Oliver and Mazzarol (2011). The form of entertainment changes as technology evolves but the content remains recognisable, whether it is an individual selecting a private entertainment from a wide variety of pre-recorded products or a group of friends sharing a banquet in a restaurant.
